Dr. Harish Prasad discussed that this case highlights the management of extensive tinea versicolor, a common superficial fungal infection caused by Malassezia species, where conventional topical therapy may be challenging due to the large body surface area involved. The patient was treated with a 30% salicylic acid peel, resulting in significant clinical improvement, with marked reduction in hyperpigmentation and scaling observed at the 3-week follow-up. Complete resolution of arm lesions and substantial improvement of back lesions were noted, demonstrating that salicylic acid peel can be an effective, practical, and well-tolerated treatment option for patients with extensive tinea versicolor.
